Get involved with Portland Parks and Recreation, Friends of Tideman Johnson, and Johnson Creek Watershed Council in caring for this natural area. A diversity of native plants supports a diversity of insects and wildlife, providing clean air and water in our city. Volunteer will likely be removing undesirable plants, picking up trash, and planting native plants but tasks will shift as needs change on the site. No experience necessary and everyone is welcome!

  • Parking: Park near the intersection of SE 37th Avenue and SE Tenino Street (please be respectful of neighbors and do not block driveways or mailboxes). If you are taking public transit, bus 75 drops riders off at SE Johnson Creek & Springwater Corridor Trail, and the MAX Orange line drops riders off at the Johnson Creek stop. Both are about a 15-minute walk to the meeting point (service is irregular on weekends).
  • Children are welcome and any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.
  • Accessibility: There is a stroll down a steep paved hill to get to the meeting location. The event will require bending over and walking on uneven surfaces. A portable restroom will be available at this site (not ADA compliant).

Getting Ready for the Event

Thank you for helping to keep Portland parks healthy and beautiful! Here are a few tips to get you ready for your stewardship event.

  • Registration is required for all stewardship events.
  • All tools, gloves and training to do the task is provided.
  • Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work.
