Whitaker Ponds - Stewardship and Birding
Listed via portland.gov
Project details
Join Portland Parks & Recreation and Feminist Bird Club PDX (FBC PDX) for a "birdy and dirty" birding and stewardship event at Whitaker Ponds!
FBC PDX is a volunteer-run birding club focused on providing opportunities for historically marginalized folks to learn together and find community. This event is for those who identify as queer, BIPOC, and/or neurodivergent and their allies. To find more opportunities with FBC PDX, visit them on Instagram @fbc.pdx.
Whitaker Ponds is home to many bird species (over 191 species have been seen at this park). Come learn about these winged creatures and contribute to the natural habitat by removing weedy introduced species like thistle and English ivy. Removing invasively growing plants helps restore wildlife habitat and creates space for a diversity of native plants and animals to thrive.
We will spend half our time walking around the pond looking and listening for birds, and the other half of the time removing weedy introduced plants.
Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, and bring personal water bottle and snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them. Tools, gloves, project instruction, coffee/tea and light snacks will be provided. There will also be extra binoculars available.

We will meet at the large gravel gathering area under the big tree, between the parking lot and the gazebo.

Any child under 14 years of age needs to be accompanied by an attentive adult.
