Listed via kalaastoria.com
KALA welcomes Astoria-based performance artist Susan Banyas, in Dance Poems – Nu arrangements from the Old Dreams on Friday Nov 13 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 online at kalaastoria.com.
Words, movement, music and video are arranged into a suite of four compositions that call forth the elemental energies of gravity, shadow, balance, harmony through the characters of dancer Steve Paxton, journalist Anas Al-Shariff, tribal leader Jeremy Red Star Wolf, composers Ornette Coleman and David Ornette Cherry, her Grandmother, Grace Lydia Edwards Rhoten and others.
The show celebrates the 50th anniversary of SO&SO&SO&SO, the performance project launched in October, 1976 in Portland, Oregon, that has continued to spawn dance, music, and word experiments in various forms—books, essays, theatre, spoken word. Collaboration is the love language at the heart of SO&SO art.
Susan Grace Banyas began experimenting with documentary art and performance in the ‘70’s, co-founded SO&SO&SO&SO, a movement-based storytelling practice, and continues on & on as a cultural detective, writer, and everyday dancer. She is author of The Hillsboro Story/a kaleidoscope history, various essays and performance texts and is a choreographer for stage and street.
Door opens 7pm. Show at 7:30pm
